Sextant (“the App”) is developed by Stefan Crafoord-Wiklund.
Information We Collect
Location Data
The App uses your device’s location to show local wind, tide, and current forecasts, to record positions in your logbook (only when you save an entry), and — if you activate the man-overboard feature — to track a position in the background. Location is processed on your device; only geographic coordinates are sent to fetch weather and marine data, as described below.
Logbook
Your logbook is stored on your device and works fully offline. If you choose to sign in (see Account & Sync), your entries are also backed up to our servers so they stay in sync across your devices. Your entries are visible only to you.
Weather & Marine Data
Wind, tide, and tidal-current data are fetched from the Open-Meteo service. Only geographic coordinates are sent — never your identity or account information. See Open-Meteo’s terms for details.
Account & Sync
The App is fully functional without an account. Sign in with Apple is optional and only used to sync your logbook. If you sign in, we store the identifier Apple provides (and the relay email address, if you choose to share it) together with your log entries, hosted by Supabase on servers in the European Union. You can permanently delete your account and all synced data at any time from Settings inside the App; deletion propagates to your other devices.
Purchases
Sextant Premium is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple’s App Store, with a free trial managed on your device. We never see your payment details.
Advertising and Analytics
The App contains no advertising. It uses TelemetryDeck to collect anonymous usage and error analytics that help us understand which features are used and diagnose problems. These signals are not tied to your identity, contain no personal data, and are not used to track you across other apps or websites.
Notifications and Widgets
Weather-window and man-overboard alerts are handled on your device. Widget and Apple Watch data are shared only between the App and its own extensions on your devices.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. Your data is used solely to provide the App’s features.
Children’s Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page.
